Why is this Man's Stupidity Being Constantly Overlooked?
Having no time these days to read news on my own, I'm having to parse short-attention span weblogs. This one from gawker.com (which I mainly visit for the spectacle, like a car crash but pretty).
"Moore, who staged a show called "Michael Moore - Live!" in support of his book "Stupid White Men," shocked the crowd at North London's Roundhouse Theater a couple of weeks ago by ranting that passengers on planes hijacked on Sept. 11 were "scaredy-cats because they were mostly white," reports the London Independent.
"Moore made racial remarks to the effect that if more blacks had been on board they would have been able to overpower the hijackers easily.

You know if this page wasn't so, well, GREY, I bet you'd have just like heaps of comments instead of a lonely little I've-got-no-friends (0) at the end of each post :)
I get the feeling that the thing with Moore is that a lot of people want to be leftist but they don't want to have to understand Noam Chomsky to do it; and Moore fills an important niche by providing an alternative. And if the choice is between overlooking the vacuity of commentary such as that quoted above and having to read and understand Chomsky and Saul and probably Said as well, well... shit.

I went to the show in London, and what the paper reports is SO FAR out of context about what Moore was talking about that it's unfair, and nearly libelous. It's unfortunate that it's being reposted over and over again.

Okay. Admittedly, I am biased on the matter. Ever since his Awful Truth days, I have harboured a disapproval of his arguments and tactics. But neither can I approve of misleading journalism, so if you would, please tell me the gist of what he WAS saying...

still waiting, ffynon -- i'd be interested in hearing what the real context was, too

Sounds like he just stole a good joke from Chris Rock.

I've been thinking about this, as I have a whole lot more respect for Chris Rock as a comedian than Moore. And I guess, what bothers me about this comment having come from him, rather than Rock, is that Moore is likely to be serious about it. He has a rather bad track record for making off-the-cuff statements and generalisations, that sound like jokes, but are delivered with complete seriousness.
Now, it's best to read people who know a lot more than I do about this sort of stuff.
